Use a reusable bottle

13 Billion single-use plastic bottles are used every year in the UK.

Only around half of these are recycled, the rest end up in landfill, our streets, waterways, and potentially: the ocean.

Brewing instructions:

  • Step 1

    Buy a reusable bottle

Reusable bottles come in all shapes and sizes, if buying a (reusable) plastic one, ensure it's BPA free.

Special mention to Jerry Bottles who donate 100% of their profits to fund clean water projects around the world. Each bottle has the coordinates of the project it's funded on the bottom.

  • Step 2

Remember to take your bottle with you!

It's no good having a reusable bottle if it's sat at home when you're out and about — get into the habit of taking it with you when you head outside!

More and more places are now offering free water re-fill points across the UK.

  • Step 3

    Spread the word

The more of us opting for reusable options the better, even just using a reusable bottle yourself you will be encouraging others to follow suit.

Just like reusable cups, reusable bottles make great gifts and stocking fillers to give to friends and family.

Why is this important?

According to the UK government: 13 Billion single-use plastic bottles are used every year in the UK, globally this figure is set to top half a trillion by 2021.

Only a fraction of these are recycled, the rest end up in landfill, incinerators, or worse end up on our streets, waterways, and potentially the ocean.

With plastic bottles making up around a third of all marine plastic pollution, the best thing we can do is cut out the single-use plastic bottle altogether.
